Thomas Crittenden letter : 1858.

Single item collection dated March 16, 1858. The letter was written to [Orlando Brown] by Thomas L. Crittenden. The letter discusses the condition of the receiver, who was suffering from "Incipient Consumption", otherwise known as Tuberculosis. Crittenden expressed regret over his friend's condition and advises him on his course of action. Apparently [Brown's] doctor had been unable to inform his patient of his condition and asked Crittenden to do so in his stead.

Crittenden was born in Russellville, Kentucky, the son of U.S. Senator John J. Crittenden, who later became 17th governor of Kentucky. He was also brother of Confederate general George B. Crittenden, and author Ann Mary Butler Crittenden Coleman, as well as a cousin of Union general Thomas Turpin Crittenden. He married Catherine Todd, the daughter of his father's second wife.
